Aligner Teeth Straightening

I have been using aligner teeth straightening on my own teeth for over 6 months now. I really am pleased with the progress I am making. Many of my patients are using aligners also. Right now everyone seems to be in good compliance. In the past we have had some people who did not stay on the aligner schedule, or started and stopped many times. This can be a very costly mistake.

At Weith Dental Care, we have found it is best to try to discourage people from using aligners if they give any hint that they may not be compliant. It is far better to start off with the method that is going to work best for you, rather than waste time with one method and switch to another later. If a person needs to switch to conventional metal braces, they will end up paying for both methods of treatment. If aligner treatment is modified, additional charges will result.

Aligner teeth straightening works very well, but must be monitored closely. Because it seems so easy, sometimes people don't think of it as treatment. It is then that they start to slack off and problems occur. If the aligners are not worn the required amount of time, then the teeth are not held in the proper position. The teeth will move back and forth between the old position and the new position. The bone rearranging that needs to occur will not be far enough along by the time the patient tries to move to the next aligner. If the patient proceeds when the next aligner does not fit right, then the errors in tooth movement will be magnified as the treatment progresses. If there is any doubt as to whether or not the next aligner fits properly, the patient needs to see the dentist. If that is not possible for a few days, it is best to stay in the old aligners and not try to change them.

I think aligner teeth straightening is a great treatment option for our patients. Many more people are choosing to have it done and it is very exciting to see the results. The patient is an active participant in the process which makes the end result all the more rewarding.
